Child Pornography & Pedophilia Amongst Catholic Clergy

December 20, 2011 in Bishops, Canada, Catholic Church, Catholics, Child Abuse, child pornography, christianity, Ethics, News, Religion, Religious Persons, sexual abuse of children

Once again the catholic church is in the media – it is a daily occurrence - regarding priests who either possess and view child pornography, or who have engaged in instances of molesting or raping children. The Dutch catholic church is currently overflowing with complaints of predator priests, a catholic bishop in Ottawa, Canada, is facing sentencing for the possession of child pornography, and comments are resurfacing with respect to certain acts of pedophilia that are being regarded by at least some in the catholic church as just being homosexual in nature because they involve post-pubescent boys. This blog post will be concerned with the second issue: that of bishop Raymond Lahey who is facing sentencing for possession of child pornography.

As regular readers of my blog will know, one of the issues that has angered me lately is that of anti-bullying legislation that is being passed or coming into effect in a number of states and provinces across Canada and the United States, with a particular interest in the Province of Ontario‘s anti-bullying legislation and California’s FAIR Education Act. These laws, when in effect, are intended to help reduce the amount of hatred and ignorance of students towards certain groups of people, including homosexuals or those who identify as belonging to the LGBTQ community (legislation like Ontario’s anti-bullying act, the Accepting Schools Act (ASA), would also be concerned with issues like racism and others that are responsible for breeding the ignorance and hatred required for bullying to take place). The Hate and Ignorance of Catholics

The roman catholic church (RCC) is on a mission: not a mission of peace and love, but a mission in which it is hell-bent on bringing all people in the world under its rule of law, either directly or by proxy. For all the talk of ‘tolerance’ – which at best is only slightly veiled contempt – the RCC, in actuality, wants nothing to do with tolerating other religions and other ways of thinking. N.B. As always, this post refers to catholics in general; there are individuals and organizations that call themselves catholic, such as Catholics for Choice, which do not agree with all the official positions of the RCC. Anti-Bullying, TBGLQ Rights and the Catholic Church: Battle in Ontario

Please note: Bill 14 should read Bill 13. (December 14, 2011)

There has been a battle being waged in Ontario for the past year between those who support TBGLQ rights, including the provincial government of Ontario, Canada, lead by Premier Dalton McGuinty, and those who are stubbornly dedicated to denying to members of the TBGLQ community the complete corpus of rights to which they believe nearly everyone else should be entitled to, the chief representatives of this group being the roman catholic church (RCC) and the Institute for Canadian Values (ICV), lead by the evangelical christian Charles H. McVety, whose father founded the Canada Christian College (CCC). Before I address the controversy at play, I would like to focus on the rationale for the Ontario government’s Anti-Bullying Act (ABA), or Bill 14. Read the rest of this entry →

La Salette Journey’s Paul Melanson and Friends: Ignorant and Cowardly

December 6, 2011 in Atheism, Belief, Catholic Church, christianity, Defection, On Reason Podcast, Philosophy, Reason, Religion, Religious Persons

I ardently believe that one of the inherent challenges with roman catholics (herein ‘catholics’), in general, is their profound general sense of ignorance. I have commented in numerous posts, like Catholislam, that catholics are not encouraged to think critically or to enter into dialogues with those who have opposing positions. One of the things I do when I am writing posts is to provide as much justification as possible, like references to sources, for the things I say. Now, the content of this blog post is catholic ignorance and cowardice, so I figure I should start getting into my justification. Read the rest of this entry →
