When Did Ignorance Become A Point Of View?

I am becoming increasingly upset at the intolerance that is permeating this world: both because of the severity of this intolerance and because of its frequency across the globe. One thing is certain, humanity’s future hangs in a delicate balance. It is still within our control to change our course; we still have the ability to walk down a new path. But this change will not come easily. For us to steer clear of this suicidal path we must begin respecting one another as fellow human beings, something which entails much more than simply not killing one another. It also entails learning about the natural world such that we can all work together to ensure that neither violence, nor pollution, nor inaction will be the cause of our downfall. Our long-term survival as a species requires us to put an end to intolerance in all of its many different expressions. And as we shall see, intolerance can only ever be routed out if we no longer allow ignorance to be commonplace. This is not to say that you will ever be able to prevent all forms of ignorance – but it does mean that as a species we can firmly decree that when it comes to this society or that, no law or policy can be based on any premise for which there is zero evidence or no good reason. In a recent post I covered the issue of taqiyya in islam, which allows muslims to lie whenever they feel that they themselves, as muslims, or the faith of islam as a whole, can be benefited by lying. It is taqiyya when muslims or their proponents tell you that islam is a religion of peace or that the goal of islam is not to dominate the entire planet…even though even a cursory reading of the qur’an reveals just how violent, xenophobic, self-important and self-righteous this religion encourages its adherents to be. I know that for those people who are aware of taqiyya, almost all of them have serious problems with it, including people who would identify themselves as being christian…even catholic.

But the catholic church is absolutely no better when it comes to lying. Under normal circumstances, deception is regarded as a sin; but in situations that are (at least perceived to be) gravely serious, deceit is acceptable. Read the rest of this entry →

Christians aren’t known for being the most reasonable of people, and Robert Knight, writer for The Washington Times, is no exception. In his article Holy Rudolph? ‘Tis the season for Christmas phobia, Knight describes atheists as being fragile and made of glass, unable to handle or cope with representations of christianity in public, whether these representations are concerned with Christmas, the christian god, the ten commandments or even their ‘saviour’ Jesus. Whether it be atheists fighting to have religious representations removed from public places or refusing to allow christian values and perspectives determine how they live their lives, Knight describes atheists and their enablers as pathetic and the worldview they promote as being a virus. The Masks of Roman Catholicism and Islam

Depending on who you speak with, listen to or read, you may have previously been told that the religions of roman catholicism and islam are religions of peace and that any person indicating otherwise is grossly misinformed. But this is a lie. The religions of roman catholicism and islam are both elitist, fascist and convinced that the right thing to do is to convert everyone in the world to their (un)respective banners. While methods may vary between the two groups, the telos for each is the same: dominate and control everyone, although they may use less explosive language, such as lead, guide, shepherd, instruct or more of the like.
