The catholic church is at it again. Different catholic groups across the United States have been fighting their State governments regarding various pieces of legislation that have changes the legal definition of marriage to include members of the TBLG community. They are upset because the redefinition of marriage contradicts their own, and is affecting their ability to discriminate against individuals of the TBLG community. But despite their biching and moaning, they have been losing their fight. And now, with the Obama Administration warming up to same-sex marriage, the catholics are, shall we say, up in arms. To say that I have problems with the catholic church and all of its bullshit, really is putting it mildly. Below is a short list of some of the very terrible things the catholic church, via the Vatican (and pope Ben-the-Dick), has been up to as of late. This list comes from my post More catholic Bullshit.

  • raping little boys and girls, covering it up and refusing to comply with legal requests to disclose all information pertaining to child abuse, including information obtained in the confessional;
  • the Vatican Bank being investigated for banking fraud;
  • preferring people die in Africa than allow them to use condoms to prevent the spread of HIV and AIDS;
  • trying to have proposed UN legislation regarding ensuring homosexuals have their rights protected by trying to argue that their homosexuality only pertains to their thoughts, not their behaviours/actions; and,
  • getting out of providing adoption and fostering in States that makes it illegal to discriminate against homosexuals (and unmarried straights). Read the rest of this entry →

The clergy member in question, Shawn Ratigan, is not only accused of thirteen counts of child pornography, he is also accused of sexually explicit conduct with a nine year old girl, according to Paula Morehouse of KY3 News. Countries like Canada and the United States do not have official state religions. These countries do have religions that operate in official capacities within their borders. The challenge comes with christians, jews and muslims being given charitable status, which allows them to build their financial stature, and use this capital to lobby these governments and otherwise try to interfere with the affairs of the state, usually in a manner that would have the State adopt or amend legislation to benefit themselves at the expense of others; though we do tend to hear more about christian lobbyists than we do about jewish or muslim ones (and I will be focusing on christians). They take money that could be supporting the state and its citizens, and then use this money to help fund their lobbying efforts. Read the rest of this entry →

Good afternoon everyone! I hope you’re all having a great day. Despite a rather shaky start to the day, everything is now going well and I just read a great article in The Vancouver Sun, titled Secularization the best thing for religion by Douglas Todd. In this article, Todd examines the writing of contemporary philosophers Charles Taylor and John Cobb, and focuses on the concept of secularization in relationship to religion and religiosity.

According to Todd, the process of secularization began during the Axial Age (around 500 years before the supposed birth of Read the rest of this entry →
