In a recent post I covered the issue of taqiyya in islam, which allows muslims to lie whenever they feel that they themselves, as muslims, or the faith of islam as a whole, can be benefited by lying. It is taqiyya when muslims or their proponents tell you that islam is a religion of peace or that the goal of islam is not to dominate the entire planet…even though even a cursory reading of the qur’an reveals just how violent, xenophobic, self-important and self-righteous this religion encourages its adherents to be. I know that for those people who are aware of taqiyya, almost all of them have serious problems with it, including people who would identify themselves as being christian…even catholic.

But the catholic church is absolutely no better when it comes to lying. Under normal circumstances, deception is regarded as a sin; but in situations that are (at least perceived to be) gravely serious, deceit is acceptable. Read the rest of this entry →

Christians aren’t known for being the most reasonable of people, and Robert Knight, writer for The Washington Times, is no exception. In his article Holy Rudolph? ‘Tis the season for Christmas phobia, Knight describes atheists as being fragile and made of glass, unable to handle or cope with representations of christianity in public, whether these representations are concerned with Christmas, the christian god, the ten commandments or even their ‘saviour’ Jesus. Whether it be atheists fighting to have religious representations removed from public places or refusing to allow christian values and perspectives determine how they live their lives, Knight describes atheists and their enablers as pathetic and the worldview they promote as being a virus. English Philosopher Peter Millican
On October 17, 2011, William Lane Craig (WLC) kicked off his Reasonable Faith Tour in the United Kingdom by debating Stephen Law at Westminster Central Hall; a debate which I discussed and analyzed here on October 23. But on October 21, 2011, WLC debated Oxford University professor of philosophy Peter Millican (PM) at Birmingham University‘s Great Hall. With over 1000 people in attendance, WLC and PM debated the existence of god…kind of.

And this ‘kind of’ really speaks to some of my fundamental challenges with debates. Read the rest of this entry →

I would like to preface this post by thanking @Volk613, who pointed me to this debate between William Lane Craig (WLC) and Stephen Law, which took place on October 17, 2011 at Westminster Central Hall and kicked off WLC’s Reasonable Faith Tour. The debate itself lasted an hour and a half, and was followed by a Q&A period, though I didn’t listen to this. It took me about three and a half or four hours to get through the debate, recording arguments as I went along. Between this and making chicken soup and apple pie from scratch, I simply didn’t have the patience to get through the Q&A as well. Read the rest of this entry →

A Tanach

Yesterday I wrote a post, More Reasons Why Christians Are Dangerous, in which I discussed comments made by William Lane Craig. I argued that Craig and those who believe and argue as he does, are at the very best ethical hypocrites, for using such bible passages as Leviticus 20:13, to condone homophobic positions (they may claim that they do not hate “gays” – which I think I can rightly expand to include all members of the TBLG and queer community. This passage not only condones animosity towards these people, but also orders their death for practicing their “immoral” acts. I went on to argue that it is fucking disgusting that these people end up wielding vast amounts of power and influence, and end up adversely affecting people who do not believe the same (or any) fucking nonsense as they do.
