Catholislam

In a recent post I covered the issue of taqiyya in islam, which allows muslims to lie whenever they feel that they themselves, as muslims, or the faith of islam as a whole, can be benefited by lying. It is taqiyya when muslims or their proponents tell you that islam is a religion of peace or that the goal of islam is not to dominate the entire planet…even though even a cursory reading of the qur’an reveals just how violent, xenophobic, self-important and self-righteous this religion encourages its adherents to be. I know that for those people who are aware of taqiyya, almost all of them have serious problems with it, including people who would identify themselves as being christian…even catholic.

But the catholic church is absolutely no better when it comes to lying. Under normal circumstances, deception is regarded as a sin; but in situations that are (at least perceived to be) gravely serious, deceit is acceptable. Read the rest of this entry →

Anyone who has spent some time on this site will know that when it comes to religion, I have some major objections. And while this remains the case, reflection upon recent events in my personal life has led me to really think about this issue. Out of this reflection one thing has become clearer: the ultimate problem, the real problem goes much further than religion – religion and religious beliefs are only a consequence or by-product of the real problem. Contrary to Stephen Weinberg, who said “But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion,” I believe the real problem is that people are ignorant to the point of being arrogant. It is only out of this arrogant ignorance that people seem to be able to believe certain things, such as: a man from Nazareth was murdered and resurrected; that an illiterate man wrote the qur’an; or that a god is not hypocritical who prohibits murder but endorses genocide. It is also only out of this arrogant ignorance that people seem to be able to act in certain ways, such as mistreating other people. Read the rest of this entry →

English Philosopher Peter Millican
On October 17, 2011, William Lane Craig (WLC) kicked off his Reasonable Faith Tour in the United Kingdom by debating Stephen Law at Westminster Central Hall; a debate which I discussed and analyzed here on October 23. But on October 21, 2011, WLC debated Oxford University professor of philosophy Peter Millican (PM) at Birmingham University‘s Great Hall. With over 1000 people in attendance, WLC and PM debated the existence of god…kind of.

And this ‘kind of’ really speaks to some of my fundamental challenges with debates. Read the rest of this entry →

An Angry Christian Responds

Yesterday I published a post regarding the pro-life protest occurring in Ottawa: Forty Days For Life, titled Forty Days For Life, Ottawa: My Report. I have received a couple of responses thus far, and one of them was so inane I decided that, instead of providing a private reply to him that I would make it the content of this post; after all, I do enjoy highlighting ridiculousness. The first set of asterisks below indicates the beginning of Garry H’s reply, and the second set of asterisks indicates the beginning of my reply to him. Read the rest of this entry →

Main Protester, Forty Days For Life, Ottawa

As I promised yesterday, here is my post regarding the Forty Days For Life protesters in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada; this post will give an overview, as well as my thoughts regarding, the conversations I had with these protesters. Before I get into any of the specifics, I would like to first make sure we all understand what I mean by Forty Days For Life. Below is a news segment from Sun TV in Ottawa: Read the rest of this entry →
